Abstract:

Despite the long history of the worldwide use of Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine, a wide spectrum of adverse reactions has been observed in a small proportion of immunized infants; the most severe complication, disseminated BCGitis, is often fatal but exceedingly rare and is considered to result from host immunodeficiency. At present, CT scan, ultrasound, X-ray and bone marrow aspirations are the investigations used to diagnose this disease. This is the case report of a 6 months old female infant with disseminated BCGitis. This paper aims to highlight the advantages of the use of nuclear medicine imaging and pattern of bone scan for diagnosis of disseminated BCGitis.

Dystrophic calcinosis cutis and SLE; the bone scan pattern [Persian]

A 21 years old woman presented with a history of SLE and skin lesions on the arms, trunk, and abdomen. The left gluteal region was ulcerated and painful and occasionally extruded a chalky white material. The patient referred from rheumatology department for osteomyelitis assessment. On physical examination the patient had hard, nontender lesions on the proximal arms, lower abdomen and low...

99mTc-MDP whole body bone scan in a case of acute disseminated melioidosis

Melioidosis is a potentially fatal infectious disease occurring predominantly in the tropics, caused by a Gram-negative, motile, rod shaped obligatory aerobic non-spore forming bacillus, Burkholderia pseudomallei. It can produce localised or disseminated disease largely affecting immunocompromised patients. It is a challenge to identify melioidosis early as this disease can manipulate host’s ce...

Disseminated metastatic disease of osteosarcoma of the femur in the abdomen: unusual metastatic pattern on Tc-99m MDP bone scan.

A 25-year-old patient with osteosarcoma of the right distal femur underwent a bone scintigraphy with Tc-99m methylene diphosphonate (MDP). Whole-body bone scan revealed extensive metastatic disease in the abdominal region. Abdominal computerized tomography confirmed the presence of ascites and calcified masses on the greater omentum and peritoneal surfaces. Here we describe a case of unusual me...
